Assignment Description For this weeks assignment (#3) I chose to take pictures of food. Over the weekend I had made banana & peanut butter toast, and added some ingredients to it to make it look more appetizing. I had taken multiple photos of this toast in many different places to hopefully catch a pleasing meal. Something I noticed while looking at photos of food is that food is well served and decorated with spices. As I was prepping my morning toast , it didn't seem appetizing yet, I decided to add a sprinkle of ground cinnamon and 2 cinnamon sticks to top it all off. The extra spices really added to making the meal look more appealing. Another thing I noticed while looking at professional pictures of food is that the lighting is usually very light, it seems to cast a nice glow on the food being presented. In order to mimic the lighting, I tried using natural light, so bringing the food close to an open window really helped the quality overall shot of the toast. I also learned about positioning of the food. Getting the right angle was really important and also dramatically effected each and every shot I took.

Assignment Description This week I chose to experiment taking pictures of people downtown Ann Arbor. I had 2 of my friends come along to help me out. I wanted to capture a somewhat warm and comforting background so we decided to stop at a nearby Starbucks. I took a few starter photos to get the hang of being able to take good portraits. I planned and ended up capturing a soft background to keep the main focus on the subject. Original - Unedited Photo Shutter Speed: 1/30 Aperture: f5.6 ISO: 200 More photos of people What I learned
During this photoshoot, I found out how to adjust my camera settings to create and capture quality portraits of people. I was able to soften up the background in some of the photos. Lighting was also a major issue in some of the tested photos but that was easily fixed by changing the cameras aperture. I also learned how to capture both posed and real life photos of the subjects in the process of this photoshoot to create a somewhat dramatic and or laid back effect. For this assignment students were asked to take an image by Noelle Jacobs and retouch it. In order to do so students had to learn use and understand certain photoshop features, to enhance the overall image of the model car. What I learned
During this photoshop assignment I learned a little more in depth oh how to darken the background to keep the car in focus and giving the image a little more "pop". Trying to make the car look more dramatic also meant touching up the little things such as light reflections. Some of the lights reflecting on the car can sometimes be distracting, I was able to learn how to erase those light spots in photoshop. As I continued to work on the image of the car, the windshield seemed to be too light compared to the rest of the car. I was able to then tint the cars windshield to bring the overall focus of the car instead of specifically to the windshield. For my first assignment, I thought it would be best to take pictures of architecture. Architecture should be fairly easy to take pictures of because it doesn't require a ton or adjusting to make the pictures turn out well. In order to create excellent photographs of architecture, I needed to know the basics of composition and be able to apply it for this assignment to capture the beauty of it, and what better way to capture photos of architecture than downtown Ann Arbor? Best Photo Original - Unedited Photo Shutter Speed: 1/400 Aperature: f25 ISO: 800 More photos of architecture What I learned
Ann Arbor is full of beautiful buildings and amazing architecture, I went around exploring both in and out of buildings to capture the essence of it. Keeping in mind the rule of thirds I was able to take some quality photos. Something challenging during this assignment was getting the exposure right on the camera. It was a bright day and some of the photos required me to do major adjusting on each photo I took based on the position against the sun. Framing, lines, symmetry, and using rule of thirds aided the overall look to the photos. Assignment DescriptionFor this assignment students were asked to take a picture of themselves and were required to put a piece together using that photo to create pop art. I was required for the student to change the color of the image 4 different times, then after do another one on our own. Popart #1 Popart #2 What I learned
During this assignment I learned a few basic editing tools using photoshop. While creating the image above on the right, I was able to learn how to compile 4 photos into one whole as well as changing the color of the complied images. I can use these techniques in further projects and assignments in photoshop. For my first assignment I have chosen to focus on the subject of architecture. While taking photos for this assignment I plan to learn more on how to capture beautiful architecture on buildings, and be able to apply my knowledge on composition to create a more stunning or emphasizing photograph in the end. I feel like these photos have accurately captured the outstanding architecture from both inside and out of buildings. I personally like some of the images that were caotured from really high or really low angles, it gives that overall photograph a bit more spice to it.
